Fatigue and Success in Athens

We have come to realize that we have been burned by the tricky sun in this deceptively temperate climate. We have also come to realize that restauranteurs are stingy with their drinks, expecting us to buy glasses of wine. They sell water in tiny bottles and soda by the thimble-full. We have learned enough language to point at what we want on a menu. The food is delicious, without exception.

Walker has been having fun learning the alphabet where /\ = L, E = S, and W =O, etc. He has learned to say "thank you" in Greek, but it is a courtesy that is mostly wasted on this turse people.

Audrey has come down with a headcold and retired to the room for an afternoon nap after exploring the Acropolis and the Olympus monuments with us. Walker and I were able to search the preserved ancient city of Athens for Socrates' last residence (jail) which, I am happy to report, we found. The sage and generous President Reynolds told us the story of the true site (rather than the one suggested by the park officials) and gave us directions. Walker's keen sense of direction lead us right to the spot (after a couple of hours of meandering). True to the nature of the Socratic myths, Walker and I spent our time "arguing" about everything including politics, religion, relationships, cigarettes, and which way to turn now. It was great fun, I must say.

We have another day here before we return on Wednesday. So far we are having such a great time. The only thing more fun than this will be our return to the land of super-huge soda drinks and mega easy consumption of all types of foods! -- and, oh yeah, our friends and family.
