The difference a day can make....

We all know that December 7th commemorates the day that "shall live in infamy." Did you know that December 8th is remembered for the world's luckiest investment?

Every day I get junk email (spam) regarding financial investment opportunities. Spam filters really keep them from being much of a nuisance and I mostly just ignore them, but I get them nonetheless. Some of the ideas might even be good ones. I know that I hear investment advise on the radio and television that has some credibility, but I'm just not a financial investment kinda guy.

BUT, I did make an investment, one time, that has paid off hugely in so many ways that I just feel the need to share my good fortune with others on this anniversary of that event. It was on December 8th in 1984, in Provo Utah, that I entered into a legally and morally binding partnership with Audrey Ann Gurr (I teasingly used to hyphenate her middle and last name and call her Audrey Anger). Now, after twenty two years together, I feel fortunate beyond all expectations to have her as my partner. Financially, we do not have much. But, we have a home with a cat, a floating remodeling project perpetually 90% complete, and at this time of year a Christmas tree (this year of no travel, a real tree). We have two cars that transport us reliably to work and church activities where we both feel important and well liked. We have three great children that fill our lives with purpose and pride and joy in a way that defies adequate description. Best of all, we have each other. What a joy it is to know that regardless of our shortcomings (mostly hers, as I have so few) we share a loving acceptance of each other that binds us together and sustains us through life's many trials.

So on December 7th I respectfully mourn with those who mourn the events of War. But on December 8th, my heart is swollen with gratitude for the joys that even a simple life has to offer. Happy Anniversary, Audrey. You're the best!
