Hello Family,
First off, yes, I do read your e-mails, thoroughly and joyfully. I love your e-mails and I can't wait to hear from you every week! And, I try my best to respond to all of your questions, etc... As I did with the weather last week, I thought. Whatever the case. :) I suppose I can be better at specifically addressing what's sent.
Secondly, Happy Birthday Dad!!! Now that I think about it, this is probably what mom was referring to, huh? The fact that even though she reminded me of your Birthday last week, I forgot to say anything. *Hanging head in shame* Yes, it is true, I forgot to write you to tell you happy birthday, la multi ani, si asa mai departe, but I did sincerely remember on your birthday that it was your birthday that day, if that helps. ;)
As for how I'm feeling; I'm doing fine. I have developed in the past couple of days a bit of a scratchy sore throat, but I expect that to pass quickly. The weather was much warmer this last week, but is projected to get down to about -10 C, which is pretty cold. I think I have kind of leveled off with the weight loss for now, though I had to punch new holes in all of my belts recently in order to keep my pants up high enough that I don't step on and ruin hem of my pants. I have already had to resew two buttons, part of the hem, and patch up two holes in these pants. I am thinking of getting a Romanian suit made sometime soon. Being Senior Companion is great! I have a great junior, and, though it is much more responsibility, it is also a lot more control, being senior, which has really helped me to feel more satisfaction in my work. And, yes, the members and investigators here seem to really appreciate me in particular and the missionaries in general. Everybody, in fact really loves the missionaries here, as just about every member has worked a lot with the missionaries and knows how great it is to participate in the conversion process.
As for this end. Our investigator Bogdan continues to progress really well. He loves to pray and to read and really ponder the assignments that we give him from the Book of Mormon. He wants to be baptised and is sure that the things we talk about are true; we are just discussing a baptismal date that we can all agree on. We have worked a lot with members in teaching him, using them to help us explain material more clearly and to become friends with him, so he can better and more fully integrate himself in the branch.
We also just began teaching a woman named Ionica, who is progressing really well. She is in her early fifties, very neat, extremely nice and polite. She actually reminds me a lot of Grandma Gurr. She is the widow of an Orthodox Priest, and very interested in hearing more about Jesus Christ. We had the neat experience of teaching her about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon, then having her exclaim, "Oh, Joseph Smith and this book don't deny anything that I believe from the Bible at all, they just clarify it as another witness of God." I couldn't have stated it better!! We just met her on Wednesday, and she came to church yesterday. It was really thrilling to see that happen because that's the best way for her to feel the spirit and gain a personal testimony.
Also, this last week, we had a fireside organized by the missionaries for the members. We talked about the Apostacy, the Restoration, and the importance of the Book of Mormon in unlocking the truths of the gospel of Christ and helping us to more fully appreciate the Atonement. It was a really great experience, and I loved the chance to have fun with the members while teaching a gospel lesson.
Well, I have to go. I love you all very much,
Elder Walker
P.S. Yes, I do take pictures and get away without being thought a spy.
