I used Skype for the first time this morning to talk to Walker in Moldova, where my 8am was his 3pm. Skype is a service that allows users to connect over the internet and to exchange streaming audio and video at no cost. The connection was nearly flawless during our hour-long conversation. The video was pixelated at times and often lagged behind the audio, but the audio was consistantly good with only about three episodes of just a few seconds when the streaming audio failed.

As for Walker, he seems to be doing quite well. He has secured good lodging and transportation, and is making progress on the academic research which is the very purpose of his travel. It was great to talk to him, of course. I have included pictures that I acquired through the Skype "snapshot" feature so that you can see how he looked and a little bit of the room where he is staying.

Walker looks great! What a fun way to communicate across the world. Hopefully the time will soon be here when we can join in that kind of talking. I think you sent a long letter to my MSN box but it did not "arrive" so could you resend it to me at aol.com?
