Courtney's surprise birthday party was a couple of weeks ago. On Tuesday night, the actual day of her birth, we had just a small family moment of Courtney recognition. In the picture below is Courtney talking to her Grandma Gurr on the phone. Courtney loves her cell phone.

She also loves cake. She had two big requests for her 16th birthday. She wanted to have a surprise party and she wanted red velvet cake.

Since it was her birthday she got to choose to have her favorite meal prepared. In all the world of food to request, she asked for scones. Audrey makes wonderful scones (above). And the red velvet cake turned out to be quite yummy (below).
And then she talked her mother into piercing her ear. Yep, she held an ice cube on her ear lobe for about twenty minutes and Audrey pushed an earring right through her tender little flesh -- and she didn't even cry! That is quite a feat for Courtney, 'cuz she is genuinely sensitive and fairly expressive. But hey, she is sixteen years old now. Maybe big girls don't cry so much.
She received some nice cards and gifts. The final birthday present is that she is skipping school on Friday and Dad is taking her on an all-day shopping spree to buy clothes, or whatever.

Courtney, I liked your choices for your birthday. Loved seeing pictures of you. Good luck with the pierced ears - sounds rather painful to me. Have fun shopping.
love,
