Noah's Ark: The Ultimate Flood Insurance

Would you believe that our home is just 10.3 feet above sea-level? The weird thing is that in Florida, we are not considered to be a flood zone and therefore flood insurance is not mandatory. But after seeing cousin Stephanie Ray's flooding troubles in Holland Michigan, I was inspired to seek flood insurance of my own. Fortunately I had an Elevation Certificate on hand (a requirement for which insurance companies love to charge a few hundred dollars to complete).

I heard on the news recently that a local politician was lamenting the fact that most South Floridians do not carry flood insurance. I also see that State Farm is asking permission from State regulators to raise home-owner insurance rates by 41-68% in South Florida.
