Hello Family,
Thanks for your letters mom and Courtney. Unfortunately, I was not able to see Belle's drawing, but I am sure that it is beautiful. I am so super glad to hear that you are doing better, mom. I have been praying for you every night, and it is good to see that you are getting better. That's super cool that Courtney is doing so well in school and that she got to go on the temple trip. Also, that Belle is so active and engaged is no surprise, of course, but good to see. Actually, for General Conference this next week, we will be getting 3 out of 4 live session broadcasts translated live. The translator for the Prophet is usually Brother Radu, who was actually one of my MTC teachers, so that will be neat to hear him. Of course, we are really looking forward to the chance to hear from the Prophet and Apostles.
Elder Miller and I are beginning to see some results in our new zone of the city. We have been focusing on at least 2 hours of street contacting a day and full Red Zones of block knocking from 5 to 8 every night and I feel we are beginning to see the results of our diligence. Although our numbers are still not extremely high, we are working our way towards a more powerful teaching pool, and I think we are getting there. Just in the past couple of days we have had a couple of really powerful discussions. The first was with a man who said, after we told of the first vision, that he had never seriously discussed religion before and he was amazed at the peace that he felt it brought into his heart. I can't wait to return and give him a Book of Mormon tomorrow and teach him how to have such peace in his home whenever he wants. We also talked to a good protestant women who was searching for some answers. She said she had been confused as to which church was the true one, and had been praying to find out when we showed up. She promised us that she would read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it is true. What more could we ask for? I feel really good about her.
On Tuesday, we are going to go to Buchurest for a Zone Conference with Elder Wolfgang Paul, who is in the mission area presidency covering Eastern-Central Europe. It is actually the same mission area that Jenn, in Sweden, and her brother, going to Poland, will both be in. And, what is more, I found out that I have been selected as one of 6 missionaries from our mission that will get a personal interview from him after the conference, so that is really cool.
As for the weather here, it has actually been rather cold and miserable this last week. Whereas last Saturday I was sweating in a short-sleeved shirt, last Tuesday you could see your breath. It had to have been in the 50s and we were wearing our sweaters. Plus, to add to the misery, it rained hard for 36 hours from Tues to Wed, flooding many of the houses on the outskirts of the city and making it a tough day to do missionary work. Contacting was impossible and walking from appointment to appointment was drudgerous. But, there is something rather fun about doing something so miserable for a cause that you believe in at a time that I am strong and healthy enough for it not to really be a problem. Today, I am going to look into stocking up on winter clothes and buying a tailor made suit, which I hear are rather cheap here.
Oh, I'm not sure if I ever told you all, but I have been using mom's recipes on occasion, making French toast, tortillas, and scones. I love the scones and make them almost every week as they are rather cheap and great between meal snacks. Typically, Elder Miller and I have been making tomato stews with vegetables and meatballs or omelets or rice and potato meals. It is funny just how much I really love eggs and potatoes now, whereas a few months ago I would have had trouble getting them down. I thinks its really true that if you eat something enough you begin to like it. When we are waiting for the bus at night or have some down time, Elder Miller and I often quiz each other on the verb flash cards that I have made. Sometimes, we find time to play chess. We are pretty evenly matched, so we have some fun games. With the Book of Mormon, I have been spending almost every free moment reading out loud from it in Romanian and I am almost through Alma. My goal is to finish it by the end of the transfer in the middle of October. We'll see how that goes. I find that, though it is still difficult to speak without making mistakes, I can usually convey what I want. And, I can usually understand almost everything that people say now, which is a really neat feeling.
Anyway, I have got to get going, but please remember how much I love and care for you all.
Love muchly,
Elder Frahm
